Road to paradise

Hwy 120, just off Mono lake leading to the Eastern Sierras.   I am a sucker for the road leading to the mountain photos.  I think Arvind saw the S-curve and envisioned the shot.  Props to him.

The Rainbow that chased us

On the way back from the Sierras, we got thumped by a hailstorm and heavy rain for a hundred miles or more.  We were driving away from the sun and we saw this rainbow for tens of miles.  We took a bunch of photos and the rainbow won’t go away until we passed Lee Vining and saw the entire rainbow horizon to horizon with a secondary rainbow on top.

The rainbow chased us for about 20 miles until we pulled over at the Mono Lake visitor center to grab these shots.

The first idea of shooting through the window was Durgi’s idea.  He has a better shot of this, IMO.  The second photo of course, is of Durgi shooting the rainbow.

As we were shooting this, the car was getting pounded by heavy rain, hail and massive winds that almost blew us away (and I am a heavy bloke).  We didn’t notice at the time, but later we realized the driver side window was cracked.  I suspect it was the hail at this point which did it.

Stormy day in Mono Lake

Little bit after the sunrise, the skies were even more dramatic.

Shot two versions trying to capture the drama, first with a rectilinear 10mm lens and then with a Fisheye lens (10.5mm Fisheye).  Which one do you like better?
