The silent button on my ~10 month old iPhone 3g broke.  Turns out this is a common occurance.  I read that Apple phone customer service is giving mixed responses as to warranty coverage for this.

In my case, I walked into an Apple Store and it was covered by warranty – of course I told the genius I read many such breakages on the internet and it wasn’t just me. My repair was covered by warranty and I actually got a replacement phone.

Apparently, Apple covers this through their extended warranty as well.  Not sure if I want to shell out $80 for an extended warranty for 1 year which doesn’t cover you dropping the phone – probably not.
